BENEFITS OF A HEALTHY SEX LIFE IN THE GOLDEN YEARS

There are many benefits to having a healthy sex life as we mature, or as some would like to refer to it as “The Golden Years.” One might think to themselves at a certain age that their sex life is over. Well, we can dispel this myth by saying a healthy sex life is most beneficial, in both men and women. It’s been proven to have multiple health benefits. Regular sexual activity even helps boost your immune system, “who would have known?”

Couples who have regular sex “two to three times a week” can look up to ten years younger and can help improve sleep by releasing the hormones Oxytocin and Vasopressin. We all know how a good night’s sleep can make all the difference in the world sometimes.

Also, mature couples who have a regular sex life report being much closer to their mate thus making their connection stronger and, who doesn’t want that?

Men who have a regular sex life are at a lower risk of prostate cancer. In Postmenopausal woman genital dryness can be a problem, but having a regular sex life can improve the blood flow in the genital area decreasing vaginal dryness, which can be avoided with having a regular sex life (regular being roughly 2-3 times a week).

As we mature we may a have a few more aches and pains than we used to but instead of reaching for that bottle of pain medicine try reaching for your partner instead. Some reasons for this is the chemicals in the body we release during sex, including dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin, which induce pleasure-enhancing and pain-relieving sensations.

When having a regular sex life it can also help with your overall mental health, possibly lessening depression. It may make you want to look better by getting out there and exercising, too. How fun is that? Exercising with your partner and having fun at the same time? I should also add that sex can burn up to 100 calories in a 20-minute session.

Your partner finds you attractive, you feel better about yourself and your overall health is improved. In my opinion, this is a great way for a couple to stay connected and you have more self-confidence in so many ways. Your overall health is improved.

So what happens for a couple when intercourse is no longer an option due to a possible medical condition. Well, have no fear there are a lot of different ways to have an intimate relationship with your partner that does not have to involve intercourse. We can show our love to our partners in so many different ways,

  • cuddle them
  • spend time together
  • go to a movie
  • cook for them
  • hold hands
  • make a CD of his or her favorite songs
  • plan a trip together
  • take a walk in the moonlight
  • make sacrifices when necessary
  • be faithful, loyal and trustworthy
  • go for a drive and have a picnic

Do something with your partner that he or she might be interested in. It shows your partner you love and care for them even if its, not something you would normally like to participate in, but most of all, make sure your partner feels cared for, wanted and most of all, loved.
